Refrigerant Retrofitting

The components of a specific part of air conditioning equipment have been engineered specifically around the properties of the refrigerant used. When replacement of that refrigerant becomes necessary for technical, regulatory, or economic reasons, the replacement refrigerant should have as many properties similar to the original refrigerant as possible.

The term “retrofit” describes special procedures required to convert one type of refrigerant system to use an alternative refrigerant. SWAS has developed retrofit kits and guidelines for some of their models. These procedures were designed to provide the best level of performance with the new R-134a system.
